Kinja'd!!!

These aren’t actually Alberta’s new veteran plates. These are plates anyone can get. Neat. I really like the design, a lot easier on the eyes than the regular red plates.

For comparison, our Veteran plates.

Kinja'd!!!

And our regular plates.

Kinja'd!!!

There has been a lot of debate about changing our plate design. Honestly, I’d like to see new plates. But, considering the subject of changing plates was only brought up because !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (he had a lot of hissy fits, in many ways, Prentice was not a good premier, but that’s for another day.) the plate proposals were, well, shit.

Kinja'd!!!

This one does look quite nice though, but the debate has all but fizzled out with Prentice gone. Shame, because I’d like a non-rectangular plate design. Much like NWT or older Tennessee plates. And this one actually has the beloved “Wild Rose Country” slogan, which I can’t imagine the province ever actually scrapping unless there’s another hissy fit over the Wildrose party.

Are there any other countries in the world with customizable plates other than the US of A and Canada?

Every other country has patronized plates for their entire territory.

You can get special Euro-style plates in Australia, as supposed to the rectangular plates.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Other than that, can’t really think of any.

I like the basic and veterans BC plates. The normal ones are so plain that there’s nothing to dislike.

Kinja'd!!!

The 2010 Olympic ones, however, are the worst and I hate seeing them. It’s also really hard to read them if it’s not sunny.

Kinja'd!!!

Then there’s the Consular plates, which you rarely see and I used to think they were from somewhere in the states until I saw they were actually BC plates

Kinja'd!!!

The vanity plates are meh

I really like the waving flag design on the regular BC plates. I don’t know what it is about it. It just looks really nice.

There’s something strangely timeless about it, it’s not anything really special, but I also have no idea when this plate design is from or how long we’ve had it, but it’s just nice.

Great, now it will be harder to recognize the tourists with their camouflage canadian plates, that almost look like Montana plates.

I can help with that...

The current BC plate design is from mid-1985. The previous design looked like this:

Kinja'd!!!

Just like SkyTrain and a bunch of other stuff, they made the change because of Expo86. (and then history repeated itself w/ the Olympics, plates and all)

That flapping flag graphic is allegedly the logo of the now-defunct political party in power at the time, which is why the consular, Olympic, and newest motorcycle plates have a different logo.

Oh those are quite nice too. I didn't know any of that, it's cool to learn these things. Makes a lot of sense that they're provincial party logos

Doesn’t matter, all those plates come to Ontario anyway

Regular BC plates are plain? Pfft. Get on Ontario’s level.

The defunt political party was of course the Social Credit Party. BC has had the current design since 1986. I really like western most canada’s plates because each province has it’s own signature colour.

I wrote extensively about the “grate plate debate”.

It was the previous premier who was throwing the fits about it. Jim said the slogan would stay when he was elected as premier. And it did.
Not that I disagree about the PC party not having good premiers. The final three or 4 were pretty big duds.

I actually completely forget it wasn’t Prentice. It just sounded so much like something he would’ve done.
